Camilo Nascimento, Artist's Statement: As a performer and composer, the codes of music theory are the fabric of my work. Arrangements of tones, space, time and color are rhythms that influence our internal and external spaces always. My original Tone Poems are calendrical rituals of symbol, color and number. They are played by the viewer’s eye, musician’s instrument and painter's brush; like a musical composition, they are codes forever interpreted by a performer/artist in unique ways. I collaborate with artists, writers, teachers, healers and musicians who recontextualize media in gallery, club/theatre and classroom settings. I aim to refresh the role of the 'artist' in today's culture; i.e., artists don't need to depend on critic's opinions in order to achieve 'success'.
